Scratch a branch with your thumbnail. If it's green under the skin you might be OK. If it's brown, it's an ex-plant.

I'm glad you like the idea of a Hedgehog Holly, DD, as it is a great Holly. It doesn't get too big, is tough and very hardy, and the shape of the leaves does seem to catch the attention of people and fascinate them.

I was going to get involved with this one, But i've moved back home since her indoors moved out. I had been down & met folk there, gave them all a packet of Joolz's Parsley seeds & a GC Card each. There is another orchard nearby, its got several varieties of apples, pears, blackcurrants...

If you have space its also worth letting Paulownia grow, you still get big leaves (just not giants) and the flowers are lovely. But even then don't let it get too big - this can grow to oak tree size...

That's what we are all here for Strongy, to help one another. That to me is the purpose of this site. In the future there maybe a question you could have the answer for me and I would be most grateful too.

Just back from Texas and visited a botanical garden in Fort Worth. Nothing terribly exciting except for ENORMOUS Magnolia Grandiflora which must have been at least 75ft tall. Not flowering atm but still wonderful specimens to see.

My bay tree looked shocking after that cold winter 2 years ago but it came back well with a bit of TLC. It hasn't been affected too badly this year.

I wouldn't attempt (sp) this till early spring. Dont take my word for this, as we all have different ideas, I'm sure you will get better advise from members who are more qualified
