    As Ziggy says a good mulching around the base for about a couples of yards or so in diameter will help. Remove any weeds or grass in that area before mulching.

    They prune well so it can be kept at whatever size you require normal sizes are 25ft upto 75ft they like sun and hate full shade and don't like water logged roots birds love them . hope this helps :sunny:
