Hi, I have bought an acer called shania today from the garden center (also bought another I think it's called redwood?) and happily planted them both in my new bed that is south westerly with mainly full sun, then decided to check both plants out online and it is not recommended for full sun? Argh... Shall I pull it up and find somewhere else or does anybody think its worth the Risk leaving it in? The ticket said full sun :s

My next door neighbour has one in a south facing spot and it's fine, but as I understand it some can tolerate full sun and others can't. I had one in a pot for years and it definitely thrived when I moved it into shade, so might be best if you can find a better spot for it :)

Just bought four new ones myself, two of which I've put in planters and two which are going into the ground. Just need to decide where to put them (plenty of shady spots in my garden).

I reckon. Those finely cut, small leaved, Acers don't do well in full sun, and won't take any wind either. Leaf colour will be better in part shade too. If you don't have an ideal spot just now I would stick it in a decent sized pot and move it around to find a good spot, and then plant it when you have a gap in a suitable spot.

      Lovely plant :)

Was out in the garden last night and the nearby tree looks like it will shade it for a couple of hours in the day... But I think I will pot it and find somewhere else for him to go.... Too lovely to fry!

I find it`s the wind in my area that does most damage to acers, the only spot in my whole garden not windy, is in the corner behind the greenhouse.

Perfect for an Acer in a pot then ... get it out, along with the best Bone China Tea Service, when you have "company"?

We'll all come round so you can have a dummy-run if you like? :heehee:

Just remembered I had one there 2-3 years ago, it died because I kept forgetting to water it.
