Bay trees

    My Bay trees are in large pots but they are a sickly pale green .What can i feed them with to return them to a glossy green

    You need a high nitrogen feed, but having said that, you could scrape away at the surface of the pots and remove a couple of inches of compost. Replace this with something like John Innes no 3, thats if you dont intend repotting this year. Large plants in relatively small pots need to be fed regularly to keep them looking good.

    I've had a standard bay in apot for years and every spring and autumn I do as Pete suggests (more like an inch for me) and add pelleted chicken manure or pelleted human poo,which ever is in the garden centre at the time. My bay loves it the rest of the garden's quite keen too.
    Keep an eye out for scale insects on the bark and undersides of the leaves.
