Clematis identity

    P1010159.JPG P1010160.JPG Hi .... can anyone tell me what variety of clematis this is and how and when it should be pruned:dunno:?...It's a bit more purple than the photo.
    It flowers about June and again in late summer but mostly halfway up the plant and at the top.

    If it flowers later than June then it will fall into pruning group 2 or 3. Have a look here for pruning advice.

    If it's not been pruned then that's probably why it's only flowering further up the plant :blue thumb:

    As to the variety, could be The President if, as you said, it's more purple. The President is lighter but I am assuming that it looks darker because of the conditions. :dunno: If it is then it falls into pruning group 2.

    No doubt someone more knowledgeable will come along with a definitive id.
