Martial arts is going well thanks. The wife does it too now, so now there's only the newest lad, CL1.2, that needs to grow a bit more before it's a full family thing. He wants to already. He goes to grandma's while wife, 1.1 and I go to, as 1.2 calls it, "kick".

Yep Sheal. Dear old Gothilda made her final journey. I now have Floella and Avril. Floella carries the badge of Mitsubishi, but is actually the love child of a brief union between Renault, Volvo, Nissan and Mitsubishi, from a meeting that happened in a factory in the Netherlands that at the time was joint owned by Volvo and Mitsubishi. Floella is a lovely car, but some major mechanical problems early in my keepership of her led me to buy Avril in a fit of rage at yet another fault on Floella. Avril is a Renault megane. Avril is currently slowing rotting away on my drive. Worst car I ever bought, ever.

So Floella is the current love of your life, family aside. It sounds like Avril is heading to the Scrappy. It's strange, I currently own my fourth Renault and third Clio, also a Megane in the past, and none of them had/has given me any big problems. Luck of the draw I suppose.

 

I think half of it comes down to who you buy it from. Alarm bells rang when the sales man told me the name of the "mechanic" he uses, but I was in a mood with floella at the time so I foolishly proceeded anyway. Avril went back twice, for various serious problems, but to be fair he did get the faults fixed. Since then the handbrake cable has snapped and I've developed doubts about the foot brake. Add to that that Avril has as much character as a cardboard box, the performance of an arthritic mule, the comfort of a bus, and the style of a conservative mp, and fuel economy that doesn't come close to Floella's 50 mpg average. Floella on the other hand has full leathers, loads of leg room, Volvo character, and can overtake a tractor without having to drop down to second gear. Flo is a lovely car.

When you lose faith in a car it has to go or it will haunt you. Time to move Avril on I think. My current Clio has just turned eight years old and has recently ticked over 30,000 miles, it's a 1.2 turbo that still takes off it I hit the accelerator. The only issues I have with it are a few internal plastic rattles which drive me mad. I know where to thump them for temporary relief though, until I hit a bump in the road that starts them off again.
