On Tuesday I went for an eye test as I had a peculiar persistant shadow in my left eye. I was very surprised to be bundled off to Salisbury A&E with a diagnosis of a detached retina. At the A&E they booked me into Southampton General hospital the next day for an operation to try to re-attach it! This was done with a local anaesthetic [great displays of firework-like lights]. I am now left with a very sore eye- the couple of stiches in the eyeball scratch- and very blurred vision in that eye. I am amazed at the speed of it all, but very scared in case it happens to the other eye too. Anyone else had this happen?

Sorry to hear about that Liz but very fortunate that it was seen to immediately and hope that it is healing well and quickly.

No, I have not had that but last year at times I also had a shadow on one eye, it was bloodshot and was a bit tender. The eye doc said it was Sclera, gave me eye drops and said it could take up to 8 weeks to heal, which it did.

Came off my bike in feb cracked my head above my eye removed a chunk of eyebrow, a week or two later started seeing cobwebs out of my eye flashing lights went the opticians he said there was a tear in my retina, he rang the opthalmic dept. at the hospital went straight there joined the queue for laser surgery got it sealed all done in around 6hrs.Left with an annoying floater which I am told can take years to go sometimes your brain can learn to ignore them. Its important to go for regular checks to the optician they can pick these problems up, detached retinas can occur spontaneously as one gets older.
