    How big is your lawn?

What sort of quality is it? Bowling green? Regular lawn? Rough grass for kids to kick-about on? Nightmare? :heehee:

I guess it depends on many factors, including your budget, but I've just bought a new mower that I'm very happy with.

At B&Q they have a cheapo mower and strimmer set for £65. The mower has nice sharp metal blades (as opposed to the blunt plastic on some mowers), a grass collector, and adjustable cutting height, which I haven't seen on many budget mowers. It cuts really well.

The strimmer in the set is absolute rubbish, but I guess its ok for considering the whole set was considerably cheaper than it would have cost to do a straight replacement of my old flymo, which couldn't do straight lines, used to blow the cutting everywhere, and had two height settings, scalp the lawn to within a micron of its life, or don't bother cutting at all.

The brand name of the set is Worx, which is a cheapo make, and the kit looks cheap, but works well.

It suits me because my lawn isn't very big, and I'm not after a bowling green. If I had more lawn to cut, and I wanted it perfect, I'd probably go for a decent petrol mower, if only for the convenience of having no power cable strewn accross the lawn, which always somehow manages to find its way into your path.

I have used a Bosch Rotak for 5 years without problems . The Qualcast 32 is a virtual clone of this and is on offer at Argos with a strimmer for £66 . Must be worth a look . Then again it depends how big your grass area is ?

I have recently purchased a Bosch and swear by it. It leaves me with a small rotary mower free to a good home!
