Well, being a long time ford owner I get updates about new Fords, not likely to be able to afford one but there you go.
Got one recently about the new electric Ford Mustang.
Now to me this is the kind of car that you dont buy if you cant afford to run it and the sound of a 5 liter V8 is to my mind worth it, if you can afford it.

So why would I want one that sounds like a milk float????

Just wondering, will we also be getting Ferraris that sound like milk floats as well?

I had to laugh at that @pete. :heehee: Electric motorcycles have been racing in the Isle of Man TT for some years now. Fascinating to watch them on the course but it's just not the same without the grumble.

        Hi @pete ,

Seems you do not follow the TV car shows like Fifth Gear etc ??

As shown , it seems a common practice in these powerful supercars , and some lesser ones, to pipe a growling exhaust sound though the cars hifi system so the driver gets that kind of noise experience without actually causing overly loud external sound from the actual exhaust pipe.

Also follow a car forum and a new model has come out, but 90% of the questions / comments are about the cars screen and what app , mobile connection or music etc you can play/use on it, rather than about its actual driving experience.

Suppose thats the modern world ...???

Not that I'm likely to be in the position to buy one but I don't think that the sounds wouldn't cut it for me. Another hobby of mine is pinball machines and the mechanical clatter is one of the things that appeals to me. Virtual pinballs are available (big screen in a pinball cabinet) but the experience isn't quite the same due to the lack of feedback from solenoids and the ball hitting the targets

Well I don't think the noise coming from the hi fi system would do much for me.

Well, the sound is quite realistic, but even so, I do agree for once. It would do nothing for me either!

in regards to the comment about a 5 liter V8. It sounds ok, but nowhere near as nice as a 7,2 litre V8 running a six pack...

In the motorcycle world (they were mentioned) theres nothing like the sound of a Triumph Triple (Rocket 3) running TORS. Not entirely dissimilar in real life to a Rolls Royce Merlin….:)

Just wondering how a motor bike sounds like a 27 litre V12.

I tend to like engines that have a low throb, most motorbikes just whine, a bit like those awful formula one cars.

Unlike a lot of todays bikes, the Triumph Rocket III only has 3 cylinders. Each one of them being just over 760cc. 2300cc in total on the old model. so the sound is lower than one would expect. I personally find it quite unique, Maybe I should have used the expression "reminds me of" instead.

I'm patiently waiting until the new model is released in 2020. The engine in that is 2500cc...:)

@pete - take your travel sickness pills before you watch this. These bikes seem noisy close up but whisper from a distance.

I went and watched some qualifying laps at the TT a few years ago , they had some electric bikes doing laps. A bit odd watching them go past with there whinging noise after watching the big beasts making a racket .

I can tell most of the inline triple triumphs are mile away with the sound :) it more like a whistle from a distance.

Did you live on the isle of man or do some racing their @Sheal ?

Nothing will duplicate the feel of an old 440-6 in front you...

And I still like my little Mustang. She's starting to rust but I can do corners at a nice clip and feel it. No sitting on a pillow sensation :)

I lived there for twenty four years @Perki before moving here to Scotland three years ago. Although all my family are bikers I've only ever ridden pillion, so no racing. It's in the blood and even here, if I hear a bike coming it will turn my head. :)

I was looking on the internet for a video of the new Mustang so we could hear it, but no, for some reason they think all we want to hear is music!

Days past cars looked different, now they all look the same. Motorcycles each had their own sound. I like to hear it when owners of classic bikes are out and about. Norton, Matchless BSA Triumph, you can hear them a mile away. Modern Jap bikes sound like wasps caught in a bottle.
