What's going on here? (I believe I know what's going on, but I'll wait and see if there's other suggestions).

A small new build development went on the market about a year ago, with eye watering asking prices that weren't comparable with any other local new builds. It attracted very little physical interest at its launch, never saw more than a few viewers in 6 months, but one of the houses was displayed as Sold STC very quickly, but nothing else was ever 'sold'.

Then a new estate agent was appointed, the house that was 'sold' went straight back on the market, and a few weeks later the 2nd estate agents were stating a different house was Sold STC. They attracted very little physical interest at the re-launch, never saw more than a few viewers in next 6 months, and nothing else was 'sold'.

Now they have a 3rd estate agent and yet again the house that was 'sold' went straight back on the market, and the new estate agents yet again have a different house as Sold STC within a day of marketing, without even having a single viewing!

P.S. I've witheld all details so the development cant be identified, so feel free to say just what you think they're up to.

Buyers scrambled to buy the last new build houses in this village, then they were in negative equity for over 9 years.

We get those from London moving down, they sell a flat in London and can afford a detached here.
We also get all the London boroughs buying up property, mostly flats, but not entirely , to house their undesirables.

Heard an estate agent describing local new build (justified in Local Plan as being required to meet local housing needs) talking to a villager - "These are for rich people from London, not for you locals".

But not even London buyers paying stupid prices are prepared to buy these houses. Something odd happening here.

That's the problem, virtually nothing that gets thrown up around here goes to helping the local housing problem.
It all goes into moving new people into the area, then there are not enough doctors, supermarkets Etc. roads cant cope with the extra traffic and total chaos ensues.
Then they rip up the countryside creating massive warehousing saying we need local jobs.
What we really need is a good old fashioned recession, that stops the builders in their tracks.
