Hello I’m new to the forum.. nice to meet you.

I’m looking for some advice this is my small border at the moment.. I’m a beginner gardener so… im looking for some plants for my border that is winter hardy and will last all year.

At the moment i have lilies, hydrangea, astilbe , alliums and gladioli
Along with the round hebe sort of plants (I’m not sure) they was already here..
I want to keep the round plants but fill in the gaps with some winter hardy plants taking out the lilies, alliums, gladioli etc..

I believe astilbe and hydrangea can withstand the winter months..correct me if I’m wrong. Any opinions or advice is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Welcome to the forum. I don't know why your image wont load but some one else may be able to offer advice about that. What will survive over winter depends on your climate and I can't see from your profile where you are based. The plant I have used most as a ground cover to fill in gaps around other plants is Ajuga and it has different varieties but the one that I have found most vigorous is a purple leaved one that has the nice leaf colour throughout the year and also some nice blue flower spikes mostly in spring. For some nice colour in winter maybe the pittosporum tom thumb might be worth considering as its leaf colour is particularly good in the colder months. For a shrub that flowers over winter then sarcoccoca or viburnum tinus might be worth considering but these may in time need to be pruned down to a size that would fit in your border without getting too big.

    Happy gardening!
