Lemon thyme, Aldi £2.79, including pot :blue thumb:
We got one last year and it served us well all summer, delicious in new potatoes/ potato salad/ roast chicken amongst other things
Thyme never over winters for me though :dunno: it gets to woody.
They do other herbs too. I got a sage last year to replace my old exhausted one, it's doing fab in the garden :dbgrtmb:

I said before moving house that I would PLAN my new borders, and not just buy on a whim... So why did I buy the following at Farmyard Nursery?:
      Hellebore Primrose Yellow form
Grevillea rosmarinifolia (I have one, but I thought a different clone might show different cold hardiness)
      Grevillea Mount Tamboritha
      Diascia rigescens
      Penstemon heterophyllus Blue Springs
      Dianthus barbatus Sooty
      Lathyrus latifolius White Pearl
      Papaver orientale Coral reef
      Corydalis Rainier Blue
      Achillea Little Susie
      Chrysanthemum Uri
      Primula allioni Pink Ice
      Primula Clarence Elliott

But all that cost me about £52 because lots were £1.99 each... FarmyardPlantsSm.jpg FarmyardHelleboreSm.jpg

Not a plant but this arrived today (the green bit in the middle)

When does the propane run out ? Yes - when the temperature drops to -3. Coldest night of the year to date.

Ive lost a couple of plants due to this but limited my loss by having a smaller polytunnel inside the main tunnel with its own heater.

Bought this to add a bit of resilience. It switches between cylinders when the first cylinder is empty to keep the place warm(ish)

After trying every garden centre within a 20 mile radius in the last month, I'd given up on ever finding Sweet Candle seeds for sale anywhere (without buying online and paying more for delivery than the seeds). One random trip to Trentham Gardens later (where I'd already looked and definitely not found them!) and these make an appearance.

Nobody seems to have told Thompson & Morgan that they sell them mind, as they still don't exist on their website.

Everyone we've spoken to about our plans to grow our own this year has recommended them. All the growers on YouTube seem to grow them too, so they must be doing something right.

How about a small tracking device that beeps if the trowel gets too far from the tracker in your pocket - unless you've turned it off when you put it away. :dbgrtmb:

Come on, you handy people, you can design one! :)

Went to poundstretchers today....oops....apart from buying a load of stuff I dont need I also bought 2 climbing iceberg roses at £1.79 each. I bought one two years ago and it has been the only rose that hasn’t really suffered with black spot. Also bought a pink perpetue climber for my mum which I’m about to plant. And a £1.79 blackcurrant. Bargains.

I've had to make an alteration to this feeder. The starlings worked out that if they perched on the lip and swung the feeder, they could practically empty it as the food would swish about inside. So I glued a dome topped cylinder I made from bits of plastic I found in the garage, inside to the centre of the hopper. This restricts the amount of food that can get to the individual feeder stations, if they try swinging it again.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this happening. We don't seem to get many starlings - mainly robins, wrens - smaller birds. however we do get a couple of cheeky doves (and a pheasant more recently). Currently the birds are avoiding it - they seem to take a lot of time to accept new things in the garden. They've only just started using the new bird table I got at new year.

Starlings seem to have disappeared here ......lots of sparrows, tits, finches etc., etc., so I’m not complaining. A rare albatross too, not here but locally, has made an appearance. Apparently the local estuary is hosting quite a few unusual bird visitors. :)
Although a tad belated I am going to get a couple of bird feeders after a discussion today with a bird “twitcher”. (Is that the correct term?)
