All my beans are smothered in black aphids this year and despite spraying them twice with soapy water they are absolutely covered. The problem seems much worse this year, I haven't seen a single ladybird which normally solves the problem once they get stuck in. I have sweet peas growing alongside which due to the lack of rain have virtually all gone to seed.
Any suggestions for getting rid of the little black blighters? I must confess it doesn't appear to have affected the flowers setting and the beans forming but it looks apalling.

I have the same problem - although as you say it is not affecting the beans so I have not been too bothered about them - as long as they don't spread to my other plants

Not sure if I am doing the right thing but if there is a particular leaf badly infested I have been picking it off as spraying water does not dislodge them. Looking this morning there is 1 ladybird on it - but it is not doing anything - just sitting there - looks like it might even be dead !

All my beans are now so smothered despite spraying them 4 times with soapy water, I haven't seen a ladybird all summer
