    It's still too early unless you have growlamps and heating in your greenhouse. I'd wait till mid March if you are sowing on a window sill, otherwise they quickly get too big/leggy indoors and it will still be too cold in the greenhouse.

    Tomatoes hate cold, so anything under 8 deg C will set them back and less than 4 deg C risks killing them. I always wait till the last frost before mine go into an unheated greenhouse, for me that's mid-May - even then nights can be chilly and tomatoes take weeks to recover once they get chilled, later sowings will catch up and overtake earlier ones.

            I am looking forward to getting a poly tunnel this year. wanted one for a long time. can anyone recommend a variety of cherry tom that is easy to grow and has a good crop.

              Sungold F1 is the best, tasty - good yield and reasonably disease resistant, if you want a traditional tangy red cherry then go for Floridity F1 - that won the RHS taste test challenge I've been growing it for years and can vouch for it.

                      I'm growing tomatoes this year for the first time in years. I've got room for several plants so I'm growing the following...

                      Alicante

                      Bosque Bumblebee

                      Currant sweet pea

                      Tigerella

                      Indigo Rose

                      Yellow pear

                      Artisan blush tiger

                      Yes, they are more novelty types ( Alicante is thrown in as a back up!).

                      When should I start them from seed? I will be planting in an unheated greenhouse so need to time it right so they are not too leggy.

                        Plant mid to late March Coolsox, they need to be frost free so start them off in your house. You'll need a sunny windowsill preferable coolish - an unheated spare bedroom with south facing window is ideal to keep them stubby. Aim to plant in the greenhouse mid May (after the last frost). By this time your plants may become a bit leggy but simply plant them very deep, tomatoes then make extra roots up the buried stem.

                          Mine are looking lovely, with no damping off this year. Almost finished pricking them out into 7cm pots and they fill every south-facing windowsill in the house. I did dampen my enthusiasm, but have still got about 20 varieties! (Think this is the gardening equivalent of 'you can never have too many pairs of shoes.') Could just do with a charity stall or car boot sale to get rid of the extras, as I've got over 200 seedlings!
