Well, I'm not an advocate of growing Clematis in a pot for several reasons, but it's sounds like you have been successful up to now.:dunno::thumbsup: It's possible that [a] the plant hasn't had enough sunshine and warmth this year; I've found that some of my Clematis on the East side of my Trellis entrance can be reluctant to flower while those on the West side flower well. It might be time to repot, carefully, into a bigger pot with fresh compost. [c] your Clematis might be having a "rest" year. I find that some of my roses tend to do that, despite being fed and maintained like the rest. Last year they rested and this year are flowering their heads off.

          Last thought........
Well, lack of flowering can also be put down to too much Nitrogen and Blood and Fish fertiliser supply mainly both. I would suggest you try, next year, Tomato Feed. It is proportionally stronger in Potash and Phosphorus which promotes flowering and roots rather than foliage.:snorky:

I have 2 big pots at the bottom of my garden with an arch into it, have tried several clematis in there, the pot that gets all the sun has 2 going well and flowering, the pots that face East and get very little sun, has a fence behind too, are really, really struggling, going to get them out today, pop into a pot to try to save them and think of alternative climbers for the sunless pots, any suggestions.
I have a passion flower in another pot with an obelisk, think that catches all the winter winds, I could at years end cut down the meagre growth and try that. ?? Think there`s a jasmine in that pot too, also struggling.

            Hi @pamsdish,

Have you thought of a Fuchsia for the shady side.

Ones I'd recommend ( from personal experience) are ......

Lady Boothby ( red/ deep purple black )

Pink Fizz ( self medium pink )

Had a look at a couple of sites, out of stock, but will be looking through the winter to pre-order, got the sick and dying clematis out, still some life there, so potted up to nurture and plant again next year.
