Of course, this doesn't solve the housing problems because there just aren't enough houses!

What we really need is a gradual reduction in the cost of building, which means a drop in the cost of the land as well. Will it happen? Who knows :dunno:

I expect a lot of countries will be only too happy to sort out deals with us similar to that put into thought in Canada.

"Currently, Canada and the EU are negotiating the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, which includes the UK.

But if we lose that deal with the UK, we’ll just figure out something with it directly. It’s an inconvenience but it’s one we can solve easily enough.

Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre tweeted on Friday that, “Canada should immediately conclude [a] free trade deal with an independent UK.”

          Excellent post @silu :goodpost:.

I agree @shiney the housing market will crash.

I also agree with you @longk we have been living on a knifes edge & could at anytime slip back into recession at anytime.

My point was the fact that everyone is so negative, there's so much doom & gloom in the media. I've had countless people tell me they are going to loose their job....well how do they know who's job is going to be on the line, who's going to loose their house etc etc, what we actually need is everyone pulling together, everyone supporting local business & the scaremongering to stop. I don't know if you remember the news from the last recession either the BBC or ITV evening news kept a tally of how many jobs had been lost per day or week, they then broadcast the results every night or week..well how did that help? It didn't it just caused unrest & scared everyone & in turn people stopped spending money which could only have made the situation worse. I haven't got my head in the sand & I'm a realist but I do like to remain optimistic :hapydancsmil:where possible,
I had a conversation with a woman at work yesterday who was full of doom & gloom, I thought at one point the world was actually going to end :rolleyespink:, I told her to stop listening to the scaremongering & to carry on with her life as she was last Wednesday before the vote, we had a lengthy conversation & by the end of it she was much happier, this morning shes a lot happier, she's still counting every penny (but then she always has!) but she's not as stressed & realises that yesterday she had let everything get to her. I wonder how many people feel like this woman!

I think a lot of people have felt stressed in the wake of the result and it is no surprise that, for some, it becomes overwhelming. It was a Big Decision because it has big consequences. Poor woman: thank goodness you were able to put some perspective into her fears and confusion. :blue thumb:

I've given up on the BBC for now. They are propagating the very fear and uncertainty that everyone keeps banging on about.

I'm looking for more positive news, like the story that @CanadianLori linked to.

Too right I've been stressed:yikes::yikes::yikes:, wouldn't you be at the thought of being taken out of the UK against your will, somewhat more dire IMO than leaving The EU after having thought it was all done and dusted 2 years ago through a DEMOCRATIC process. I just wonder how many traditional Labour voters who would appear to be the main "Out" voters realise that by giving The SNP a glimmer of hope/excuse to hold another referendum on Independence they have possibly scuppered there EVER being another labour Government in the rest of the UK.
I think I am right in saying that if you take the Scottish vote out of the UK then it is nigh on impossible for The Labour party to ever again command a majority. The only reason there is a Conservative Government atm is because the traditional Scottish staunch Labour voter voted SNP having got totally fed up with being taken for granted.

I was thinking about the rise in reported tension and unease and abuse of eu citizens already in the UK.

It would be nice if what's left of our government could make a formal promise that nobody already here will be asked to leave.

I thought about starting a petition to that effect on the government's petition site, but I don't have the diplomacy skills to compose the wording in a way that doesn't imply anything else.

Any diplomats on here like to do it?

Do you have a source for that? I've only been able to find this:
                            ...
Since April 1, West Midlands Police has recorded an average of just over 10 hate crimes per day; that trend continued over the weekend with nine reported incidents on Saturday and 11 on Sunday.

Chief Con Thompson continued: “We did not see a significant rise in hate crime in the days immediately following the referendum result. This is being carefully monitored.

i dont know what the future will bring, but from what i hear on the radio, the uk is the laughing stock of a few countries for its indecision. I think it should just disappear from the news for a few days.
