    Hi all!

I'm another novice to the world of gardening, and have just joined this forum after a few weeks of lurking around trying to glean bits of info and tips.

I live in South London with my boyfriend and we have a shared jungle that nobody's touched for literally over 3 years due to a big disagreement with our managing agency (don't get me started on that rant!). Anyway, the short of it is that we can now do what we want with it and as neither of the other flats is interested in cultivating anything green, it's ours! For a London garden, it's a great size and we've got lots of plans and lots of questions, so I hope people can give me some advice :).

We've started the major clearing process and have just built our shed and compost. Already discovered a couple of apple trees hidden behind huge weeds, so it's very exciting. We aim to grow a variety of veg and shrubs - some very simple ones at first and then hopefully when we've got some more knowledge we can expand a bit.

Look forward to talking to you all!

Hi Magrat. I like the username. Is it based on your proper name or are you a Terry Pratchett fan?

Thanks for the welcomes! The soil here seems pretty good from what I've seen Strongy - very rich and dark looking with tons of worms in - sort of peaty looking. I've got a soil testing kit on order, so I'll know more soon. I'm in South London, so maybe there's a soil difference from the North??

Hi Clueless - yes, I'm a big Pratchett fan, especially the witches! :-)

Inheriting unloved and forgotten fruit trees has got to be the holy grail so look out for some amazing fruit this year. They'll either be an eating variety or cooking variety and are bound to be rare/unusual and delish!
