Thanks to those who helped me to post. I live in South Yorkshire and have a small back garden which is south facing, and a front forecourt which is north facing and walled. I have put 5 big pots in the front and they are raised to get maximum light, but it is experimental! I am trying things that 'shouldn't' live there but they are doing well so far. I have salvia gregii, and thalacritum, with one of the big crocosmias, plus ferns and hostas, epimedim and trollius. Oh and jasmine, oxalis, coreopsis. I had planned for it to be all green and shade loving but I went to Tatton last year and was seduced.

One of my problems as you can see is that I like to fit a lot of plants into a small space. I reckon there's room for another couple of big pots in there.

The back is currently a wreck as a big bush has been taken out and the plumber killed my stunning climbing rose. So I am almost starting again. We have clay soil and I think we have a short growing season, but my soil has been conditioned over the years so its quite good.

I found this site because I was looking for a way to firmly identify my ex rose, and I thought it would be a good place to chat about gardening!

I have found that builders and plumbers have very little regard for my plants. It was twelve years old. He's my ex plumber now, he narrowly missed being AN ex plumber.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Bunty. :) Your plumber obviously wasn't a gardener or he would have taken more care around your plants.
