This was taken in Borneo about 1964. I am the one on the right of the group, wish I still had all that hair. We weren't the sort of unit that got invited to do guard duty at Buckingham Palace.

IMG_0295.JPG IMG_0294.JPG This is me aged around 4ish on my favourite pony Sally and it looks like I was having a bad hair day :snorky: and the lady holding the pony is Ros my eldest brothers wife, and me again aged I think 7ish but need to check with my older siblings as I was too young then to remember.Note that as I am more experienced being older I was allowed to bare back ride with no assistance :snorky: I also rode Sally years later in a gymkana(sp) and was upset when the next day she was taken to be put down due to her being quiet old:cry3:

The other photo is of me aged 15 when I was going through my tomboy stage:biggrin:

Was that at RAF Khormaksar ? I remember landing there in the middle of the night and even at that time it was like opening an oven door. We were only there for four months, I don't envy you your two years.

It was, Billybell. It was time of attacks from the NLF and FLOSY as the two terrorists groups were known who were firing rockets, guns, and throwing grenades at us. It was also the time when Lt Colonel [Mad Mitch] Mitchell became the hero of the Army and the RAF....but that's another story. The heat was very humid so you sweated just because you were breathing. I managed to volunteer for the "milk runs" flying in supplies up to Radfan where the army boys were sorting out the rebels, and also to Masirah and Salalah to install and repair ground and air radar, plus 6 weeks on HMS Albion [a commando carrier] on manoeuvres from Aden to Cape Agulhas in South Africa......where I found Navy food to be a lot better than that in the NCO's Mess in Khormaksar .:snorky:
