@sal73 - they're all looking amazing! What is the last one on the previous page?

However, it is your Lapageria that I'm particularly jealous of!

Mowgley , I am try to breed more cold tolerant passiflora , so far I got a collection of 30 cold hardy and so far 35 more hybrid I made in germination .... this is the fun with passiflora I can improve the hardiness with hybrids ...plus testing the variety who will do better in our climate

I am bringing this old thread back because it is interesting and I have something to add, namely my new Passiflora edulis I bought about three weeks ago.

It opened its first flower this morning ...

                    Passiflora1 15 May 22.jpg
Well, it seems like it opened. The picture was taken about 11am. I went out at 4.45pm and it is closed.

I have since read some open in the morning and some in the afternoon/evening! This is not good for us as we sit out late morning and then afternoon/evening. How disappointing!

What a shame about the timing @Victoria. Maybe you could put it in a position you could see it from a window ?

Unfortunately that is not possible. Just an expensive mistake and goes to prove you should read about every little detail on the subject before you purchase. I had a P caerulea back in 2007-10 and I am sure it bloomed all day. This was the only variety the Garden Center had.

To be honest Victoria unless you want fruit I'd be inclined to grow a more showy species .
I'd give your one time to settle before writing it off, the flowers may open and close differently over time and depending on temperature.

It already has fruit on it Pete (unwound it is about 6 feet tall) that flower is at the top of the trellis. I am not fond of the fruit, maybe I can make juice, yuk, it is all those pips! I bought it for the flowers and this one has a flower open on it so T'other Half said he liked it. It had no label although the other 4/5 available did, all with a white flower like this ...

I really have nowhere else to put it so it will stay put as a screen from the lane.

I was surprised when I went out yesterday at 5pm and saw this ...

                              Passiflora2 25 May 22.jpg

I was there till 6.45pm and it was still in full bloom. Maybe, just maybe ... :fingers crossed:
