Just heard the weather forecast and they are predicting a few colder than usual nights. So keep your ears open for local weather forecasts and protect tender plants, especially if the skies are clear. A couple of sheets of newspaper, over tender plants, can make all the difference.

I'm dreading the damage likely to be caused here, I have glorious Camellias and species Rhododendrons flowering ATM, the flowers will be burnt to a crisp I fear if it's as bad as predicted, not to mention all the new soft growth and my herbaceous plants, even the likes of Hostas can be very badly affected if the frosts are severe enough but do recover in time.:wallbanging:

It's just your luck for the weather to kill off the foliage that animals haven't eaten :frown:

We need Michael Fish to anounce "there definitely WILL be frosts" ... and voila, there won't be any.

Quite a lot of stuff in leaf here now that will really not take kindly to frost.
Not to mention the apple blossom in full flower.

After several poor years, the blossom on my apple trees is the best it's ever been and I've been watching bees all over it for days and thinking it would be a shame to have a heavy frost devastate my apple crop.

              blossom.jpg

But I've been to my tunnel with sprouting spuds and a few other bits that might get hit, got the spuds in buckets or covered up, and put fleece over everything else.

Hope all the wild growing stuff wont be affected as the blossom in the hedgerows has been the best I've seen for many years and was looking forward to a bumper foraging season this year.

We had frost forecast (almost certain they said ;) ) for Derbyshire last night but our over night low was +4 degrees even with a clear sky. Tonight was another definite frost forecast but now says frost possible :snork:  :)

Either way tender plants will be wrapped just in case :)

It's been an exceptional year for not only apple blossom, but also cherries and plums. I just hope I don't get my pistils frosted as it could be a bumper year for fruit. One of my apple trees has only produced fruit once in the last 15 years, but it's currently covered in blossom.

We went down to 31f last night. I'll be crossing my fingers while checking my plants for damage. Most of my annuals are under cover luckily but still...

Looks like there could be frost here tonight, so I've been out there and covered up the newly emerged growth on the Arran Pilot spuds just in case. :th scifD36:
