well I received 2 packets of these from Vientiane Lao PDR, no idea when I ordered these but the seeds came with no planting instructions just a label.

Any ideas how to germinate and general upkeep until they can be planted out, not sure what I'm to do with 100 seeds unless they are sown as a clump. IMG_0852.JPG

Just sow in a tray water & they should germinate quickly, but you will not get any Purple pampas grass as it doesn't exist, sorry.

I've just been given some Pampass that's been dug out. I'm a sucker for stuff that going to be thrown. Now I don't really have room for it. Lol

Not sure there is a purple pampas....if there is it will likely be awful to look at.
Grew pink variety once but it really is a poor thing in comparison to the whites. For me Sunningdale Silver is far and away the best.....one of my neighbours grows it and it really is a stunner in August and September.
However, none of the pampas for me.....too big, too ugly out of flower and too vicious...
the foliage is sharp and unfriendly. It suddenly becomes a monster and can be a problem to dig out and dispose of. Better plants for the garden methinks! :)

                    :).....

How did you know I dont like it? Was it something I said?:)
(Prob because I have dug so many pampas out....they are fine when given space and grown well)
However as I said......"one of my neighbours grows it and it really is a stunner in August and September" :rasp:

Mmmmmm 200 pampas seeds to plant or not to plant, may keep till next year as garden is young.
When I say young I mean only had it 5 years from a wild jungle, still developing the site but need plenty of grass for a bounding dog.
We do have a wild area which is for wild life and birds which we plant for, but borders and other bits will grow as we do.

I wouldn`t like to plant this stuff in my garden. It was quite controversial back in the 70`s :yikes:
Pink, purple, dirty grey all amounts to the same thing with Pampas.
Jimcub, it might be best not to plant one seed - let alone a hundred.
Just going to get my knickers :loll:

Could you secretly plant it in the garden of someone else? That way you get to see whether or not it is really purple, you don't get strangers visiting and if you really like it you can ask them for some seeds. Problem solved
