I've just booked a holiday for next year :hapydancsmil:

We shall be going on a 'Cultural Tour' of India. A few of the places we have been to before but most of them we haven't. It certainly won't be a relaxing holiday as we shall be on the move all the time, driving from one place to the next. Hotels are good and food should be good (never had a bad meal in India :blue thumb:).

Does "driving" mean you'll be driving yourself? If so, you're braver than I am!

No, most definitely not! :nonofinger: :heehee: Once was more than enough  The last few times I've been out there it has been in a coach with a professional driver.

Traffic can be a bit hectic. :rolleyespink:

India is not the only place that has driving problems. When we were on Java the traffic was so bad that we realise that it would take hours to drive a short distance. So we had a whip round, before starting out, and paid the police for two police cars to escort our two coaches.

Our side of the road was full of crawling traffic and the other side was busy. The police just pulled out into the oncoming traffic and forced them off the road so we could overtake all the traffic going our way. Apparently it happens all the time out there and the locals just let it happen.

The motorcyclists take advantage of the situation and tuck in behind the coaches.

You can see the policeman in the passenger seat pointing to the vehicles on the left and telling them to move over too.

The minor roads weren't too bad.

The traffic police out there are not very well paid and are able to supplement their pay by assisting the tourist industry.

We've done a similar think in Peru, but it was to get them to guide us through the city (Arequipa). The road was clear because they don't have a vast amount of traffic and the Transit Police were blocking off the main roads that came into the one we were on so we could have a smooth journey. It all brings in tourist dollars. The sooner they can get us to the centre of town the sooner we can start spending money

The traffic police on pedestrian duty were very cheerful (man on Mrs Shiney's right). The sign in his right hand means "Stop".

Got back late Sunday. Monday dragging all day. Time change, 10 hour flight etc. Today Tuesday feel better, went to bed at 7PM got up at 5AM. Good thing I planned two days off work. Met up with @@Irmemac and her husband in Glasgow, although it was a brief period, it was the wonderful. So enjoyed meeting them. And I can still remember how to say Thank you in Gaelic. Have 900 pix . of the traveling around the coastline. Such magnificent beauty. The Highlands, Skye, Ring of Brodgar (and I kissed one, hugged one, patted one---but still here). Maybe it should have been during the eclipse. Oh, well missed that just by a day. Love the people of Scotland, so precious, and gracious. I did well with the buses in Edinburgh, had the hotel pile pound 1.60 for me, so I'd have a group in each jean pocket, and off I went. Glasgow reminds me a lot of Philly, the same industry around, and buildings. Did not stay there long, only one day. Did get to the Royal Botanical gardens--beautiful, have nice shots from there. Unfortunately due to some restriction here, I can't upload my pix to this forum. But, if any of you are on my Facebook, I am posting all them there. And we stayed at some beautiful hotels along the way. Funny part---I tried to keep with trying local beer and also whisky. But sometime a women needs a martini. Their local gin was nice, and they had vermouth, but no olives. to bartenders when you cross the line and ask for olives, it now becomes a cocktail. Next trip I'll bring my own olives. Bought few things to bring back, not one for shallow trinkets. A Scotland cap for husband and a hat for myself from the company that makes the hats for Downton Abbey. Saw some herding trails. Saw the Military Tattoo---what a wonderful display. Yes, did eat Haggis, and like it. Got some fish and chips. tried the blood pudding--too salty. had a full Scottish breakfast each morning. Ok. that's it.
