    Hope this is correct section, as I am requesting info..:)

    Last night I was preparing a response to a posting here on GC, I was tired and I could not find the right words although I knew the answer.

    Anyway, I googled it and found a paragraph that said what my tired mind could not piece together, so I copied it into my posting and was about to add it here, but realised there is probably some law against doing it. So I did not post.

    So my question is, where do we stand as a forum and individuals within it as regards to copyrights etc etc.

    Steve...:)

      Academically, you may quote someone, as long as you reference it (so, you are not passing it off as your own words/work but giving due credit).
      I continue this practise on forums.
      If I post a quote from some other website, I tend to put "Source" and then highlight the word source and link it to where that information has come from.
      For example, in your instance:
      I've copied your paragraph but added the source to the original text.

        Generally, if something is available on a web search, then it is deemed to be in the public domain and able to be used under the banner of creative commons - providing that there is no monetary gain of course.

        However, I would agree with @"M" that it is good practice to name (and thus credit) the source.

          @Steve R :)
          Thats why i always state no personal experience and then if i have sourced info via the web i then add and i quote ...if im providing a relevant paragraph ...or say i found this information link when looking for information ....never claiming it's my opinion ...if it's not ...:scratch: if that makes any sense :rolleyespink:
