        like to see the whole plant,from what I can see it looks like a cowslip,

          Primula veris...cowslips have small yellow flowers.

          What I see in Nigels pics are deep purple flowers.

            I agree with @Silver surfer that it's not a cowslip (leaves are nowhere near similar) but you can get cowslips of varying colours. Over the years our cowslips have been very promiscuous and, where we had yellow and red ones, we now have all shades in between with a lot of different tones of orange ones - but no purple. :noidea:

              I should have said Nigels pic shows a tallish plant supported by canes...the veins on the opposite leaves are very typical of Tibouchina sp.
