Sun this morning but it clouded over later. Snow had started to thaw with the temperature up 6 degrees to 3C/37F.

26F (-3.3C) at the moment and the snow is still on the ground. The snow became very crunchy last night with the surface freezing solid. Roads are OK but defrosting the car and getting out of the driveway is a struggle.

Coldest night we have ever had here, -8c. Not sure what damage it has done in the garden yet.

Obviously it depends on the plants you have @strongylodon but if you have snow that works pretty well as an insulator.
During the hellish winter of 2010/11 when we went down to about -18:yikes: I was convinced that I would loose so many plants. In fact the only thing that didn't survive (did but was pretty poorly and died the following winter) was a Ceanothus. We had over 2ft of snow which I think saved the day.The longer I garden the more I am convinced it is winter wet rather than just cold which kills plants.
We were down to about -6 with no snow a couple of days ago, so hoping for the best. I thought I'd give it a go leaving some Verbena Bonariensis (not all thankfully) in situ rather than lifting them and storing in the greenhouse. The stuff in the unheated greenhouse is also like concrete so will have to wait and see if I have lost the lot or not.

No snow here @silu, rain is forecast overnight and the temperature maybe +8c compared to last night, that's a huge difference. Some of the exotics will have suffered as they weren't covered or given any protection. It is now 6c and cloudy.

Oh dear @strongylodon :fingers crossed: for you that there isn't too much damage. Certainly some of my pot ted evergreen Agapanthus which were in the unheated greenhouse and very dry were looking decidedly sad today when I eventually managed to prize the door open to have a look to see how thing were:mute:

Our temperature has risen to 27f . The sun just came out. There is about 6 inches of snow which forced me to slow down to the speed limit when I went out shopping.

I'll need to shovel my way to the birdfeeder to replenish it and that's always pleasant when the sun shines :)
