Greetings from Wet Central Scotland

Hello, my name is Doug, I have inherited my first (*cough*) garden, but it is all either grass or stones, so I have a chance to make something new with it. I am a beginner really, so I want to get this right from the start.

It is a *very* modest front and back garden, the front facing east, the back facing west, the earth seems to be quite stoney and there is clay, and it is also pretty windy at times (it is on a hill), so I am still trying to figure out what to plant where.

Hello @Gardener Doug.to the forum - good to have you on board. Maybe you could post some photos of your gardens so we can have a nose. We`ll soon sort out what to plant where I`m sure, especially with the help of other members from your neck of the woods

Hello, I will in the morning, it is getting a bit dark. My garden is quite small, tiny really, and I have meant to go out and measure it, but I do have some snaps of the flowerbed I dug, etc.

The first flowerbed round the back (west facing) that I dug (I have since turned it all over, got rid of some stones, and also removed that bit of grass at the end).

This is my ‘test bed’ before doing any more.

You can get an idea of how small and sad the garden looks:



The width - I need to say that I moved in late last year, when these first snaps were taken, and I am only just getting started with it all now (maybe too late?).
That is Cindy, our now late, elderly dog in the picture:



And... The front, complete with a fence I want to grow Clematis, etc on.

The seat has now since been removed (the previous person living here was 101!):

 

Hi Doug. Welcome. I'm sure you will make your small garden look lovely. Some nice evergreens and a splash of colour will work wonders.

I was intitially thinking about having a colour scheme, i.e. Blue, silver, purple, pink, white, for the front garden, and yellows, oranges, reds, whites, etc for the back, and also I’d like to have colour all year round, so I am in the middle of trying to figure out what to put where, etc etc.

That will no doubt all go awry, but thanks, I might need some suggestions soon!!
