This plant has appeared at the back of an ill used bed that I am developing. I cannot remember if I planted it or maybe it's a weed or something the birds have dropped. IMG_2227.JPG

I think they look like hollyhock leaves to me, but there`s something else behind those - does that have prickles?

I do not think that we have had any hollyhocks in this garden as yet. The smaller leaves that you can see at the back are the same plant but recent growth. No prickles.

If you hadn't posted that I would have suggested Japanese Anemone for the newer growth, possibly spreading via suckers from a plant the other side of that concrete fence. But the other leaves look different, more rounded and less veined, are you sure they started off looking like that new growth?

I think that you have hit the nail on it's head. We do have some Japanese Anemone's, now in pots but I think that I may have plonked that one in on a temporary basis and forgotten about it. I will have to dig it up and get it into a pot. I do not want a complete bed of them.

          Thanks for that.
