hi all , my name is Stephen ( Steve is fine ) I live in Heacham , North Norfolk Coast , I'm currently working as a Security Operative for Securitas , my Garden is pretty manageable , except I have a really virilant strain of Ivy growing at the end of it from beneath the conifer hedge and it grows out of control , growing round my Roses , my bamboo plant etc , it's all I can do to keep it from choking everything else , I usually spend an hour or so occasionally pulling up every trace of it I can find , but it always seems to grow back very quickly , I dare not use weed killer for fear of killing the conifer hedge , so any advice would be greatly appreciated , also , I have a plant growing in my garden that I don't recal seeing before , can anyone identify it for me please ( picture attached )

Hiya Steve, :sign0016: to the forum.
I think that your plant might be Arum maculatum - otherwise known as Lords and Ladies, or Cuckoopint.
If you can find the main root of the ivy you want to get rid of, and pile on some Epsom salts, cover with plastic and weigh it down, it should get rid of the problem. It`s wise not to use weed killers in my opinion, and if there is any seepage from the Epsom salts, it will only serve to feed any surrounding plants for you. The damage to the targeted root is by ''overdose''

@Stephen George welcome to GC. Arum Italicum is a prettier leafed version of the Arums and not quite so rampant as the maculatum. Having said that, you will need to keep an eye on it as it can spread quite easily and can get out of hand in a smaller garden.

Those green seeds will turn a bright red. If you see that the birds are getting them then that is the time to remove them and get rid of them if you don't want it to spread further. You just need to decide how much of it you want.

You could always do what I did with Oxalis burn it out and set your other plants on fire besides getting high [IMG] at the same time :loll:

No don't even try it [IMG] the experience I had that day :phew: stoned out my brains for hours :cry3:

                    Welcome to the forums Stephen.
You need to see what the leaves look like before being able to decide whether it is Arum Italicum or Arum maculatum.
Both have the same seed arrangement...green turning red.
