They are in their dormant stage ATM.
But I'll take a picture when they are in full growth.

So what I have decided to do is......

I have some Tephrocacti and miniature Opuntias in my greenhouse.
Have planted them out in the trough.
And as I get more Chielanthes etc, will replace them

@Sirius Just seen this site if it's of any use. Bowden's took over Martin Rickard's fern business.

Thanks. I know of Bowdens. They don't have what I want. I have the Cheilanthes they list already. It is widely available at decent garden centres.

I have however sowed spore of about 6 or 7 Cheilanthes and Pellaea from the BPS.
Have gotten decent germanination. But it will probably be another 18 months to 2 years before I will have plants big enough to plant out.

Growing Ferns from spore is a lesson in patience.

Not often. The trough is on the north side of a pagoda.

Potted up some sporelings a few weeks ago - 3 species of Cheilanthes and a Pellaea.

                  This is Cheilanthes alabamensis:

                  IMG_5642.jpg

Enclosed in a clear bag. I will harden off by slowly cutting small holes into the bag until it's more or less just shreds. Once fully hardened off I will plant a few out into my trough.

Potted up some more sporelings this weekend

                    This is Cheilanthes viridis.
It's from Southern Africa, so not too sure how hardy it will be. But there are a few, so will have some to experiment with

Not strictly in a dry trough but an interesting fern. Japanese Painted Fern.
