Lawn Turf Issues

Hi I moved into my new home 14 months ago and in the last 3 to 4 months my turf has become increasingly worse with brown patches. Can anyone help me pin point what I could be and point in the right direction on how to rectify it? I don't think it's due to the heat as other parts of the grass are drier due to this, but these pat he's are something else. Thanks in advance.

 

Stephen, looks like spilled fertiliser or an animal weeing there .....I suspect the latter
You could put a sheet of fleece, netting, etc., overnight over these areas?? Or poke a few short canes there

 

I don't think it's my dog as they started appearing before we brought our puppy home. He is also a boy which I've heard doesn't bleach grass and that only females apparently.

Will I have to dig out the dead grass and re seed? A lot of slugs appear at night time, would that have anything to do with it?

You are right about boy puppies.....a boy puppy here does the occasional wee on back lawn but leaves no damage to the grass
Could you have spilled fertiliser there?
I would wait until September and then rake out loose and dead grass. Then rake again to loosen the soil, sow seed and water. September is best time to sow grass seed. It will be as good as new in 3 weeks or so.

 

Definitely no foxes or cats it's an enclosed garden on an estate. Now that I think it could have been fertiliser but it seems to have gotten worse over time. I thought if it was fertiliser it would just happened straight away? Might have to wait until September and re seed.

 

No, depending on the fertiliser, the effects could show up next day or in couple of weeks or more. Looks like this could be the cause Stephen
Meanwhile you could water those areas to hopefully green them up a little.
Seed sown now would struggle to germinate and to grow ...only a month or so

 

Depends on the dogs diet, resulting in higher or lower nitrogen levels in the urine. Barney completely scorched the grass a pup but fertilised the outer edges. We had growth at all different rates!

 

He's on a raw diet don't know what that would do to nitrogen levels? and you can definitely tell where has been urinating as them parts are very green. So I'm not sure I probably put to much fertiliser down. Won't tell my partner that though haha. She doesn't have to know lol. What would be the best way to keep my pup of the areas that are being re seeded?

Train him Stephen. The puppy here is already getting to know not to wee on the lawn. Before that, for 13 years, my golden lab never wee'd there.
When you see him try to water the area with a hose pipe to minimise the effect

 

That`s the kind of damage leather jackets cause (crane fly)

 

If it's newbuild then I would suspect the rubble the builders buried before laying the turf.

Should see the rubbish that went in the raised flower bed down the road before they put the topsoil in

Wouldnt expect leatherjacket damage right now.......damage usually starts around September/October or early spring.
Also it tends to be widespread, in my experience.

 

If it’s fertiliser damage this shows quickly but it might be a disease that’s been the culprit coupled with the fertiliser.
Ive seen dollar spot this year, starts off with what looks like a spider web covering very small patches and best seen early morning. Area effected increases in size.
