Oh what a lovely war!!!!!!!!!! Due respects to each and everyone. No disrespects to those holding a religeous faith etc and due respects to sciences. At the end of the day. Let's be honest. Climate change. Natural phenomima whatever, look around. We are in deep, deep trouble. I often think back to childhood days. Comics, talking wristwatches. No cars but, lots of cells zipping across the skies. Todays main meal is. Two of the bright red pills, one brown and two green. This is todays Sunday roast. For pudding. Two yellow pills and either two orange and white or three pink pills. Housing problems have at last been solved. Even the filthy rich now live like the rest of us in tiny domed shaped homes. Home entertainment as we knew it is history. No more mobiles or home landline telephones. Look in the mirror, you hava tiny antenna sticking out of your head. Your vocabullary has been reduced, so as to save energy to. Yes master. No master. Nite nite. Sleep gtite and dream well.

Yes, but they need not be anywhere near so polluting if the governments made sure that the manufacturers did a proper ecological job of producing them.

I understand that he was working on a small domestic type battery which, I think, they call 'soft batteries'.

I did mention, somewhere on GC , about the man who had designed a system for storing energy (he was mainly talking about wind power at the time because of them having to be still unnecessarily). It would utilise the underground caverns where oil and gas had been extracted. In, very, layman's terms I seem to remember that it would use the surplus power to compress air and store it underground. When the electricity was needed they would use the compressed air to drive turbines. I have, somewhere, a simple layout diagram of how it would work but can't think where I've put the magazine

There's a lot of bright ideas out there.

But i dont think any of them come even close to replacing a power station.
How many people are there in the world, this technology is just fiddling around at the edges.

I saw an idea the other day on the TV, it involved driving a train up hill when there was lots of spare power, then letting it roll back down, when the power was needed.
The inventor suggested loads of these trains all going up and down this hill.

This idea, IMO, would have been a total blot on the landscape, a bit like wind farms and solar panel farms.

I think someone should tell them, if you can't come up with something sensible, SHUT UP.

And most solar panels come with a 25 year warranty. So you know they are going to last at least that long. :)

It's too bad they can't harness the energy from roads. Imagine having a series of "springs" under a busy road and having the weight of traversing vehicles cause them to coil/uncoil and the resulting energy being gathered and put in the grid.

I think, as several others have mentioned, that there are many countres that are overpopulated at the same time as being technology deficient. A perfect recipe for major pollution.

Tidal power is the future for green power generation especially here in the UK if the government doesnt destroy its potential. Lack of government help is already damaging this industry that we are currently world leaders in.

Ours only came with a 20 warranty  The inverter has a ten year warranty.

I put forward a similar suggestion at a big seminar at the airport, about energy saving, with regard to people walking around the airport. :blue thumb:

Just to throw an oar in, as you all know a warranty is only an undertaking that something will be repaired or replaced should a fault develop within the specified period. Over the 20 or 25 year period, there could be three or four failures (of course, I hope not!) and those require brand new replacement parts, that have their own environmental cost.

Oh, and 20 year warranty on an inverter is actually pretty good to be fair -- how many years do you get on a new car? Usually three, maybe five if it is a half decent deal, or seven if you buy a Kia

There's an up and a down side to that. :)

                  Down side:-
A warranty is only good if the company is still there for that length of time.

                  Up side:-
Most companies don't really expect much, if anything, to go wrong within the warranty period as they don't want to have to pay out. So you can usually expect the items to last for that period of time.
