Has also happened in similar circumstances ins Manchester, Birmingham and Chester around 27 times in the last 10 years. Manchester's last case was in May 2017 and the city also has the highest record of such instances due to the heavy traffic and constant revision of traffic lights, lanes and intersections. Out of the last 7 cases 2 drivers were acquitted and the others fined up to £60. It seems to be the big, heavily trafficked cities that have a low tolerance of such incidents

Most traffic incidents on Box Junctions are recorded by the numerous, and now common, traffic control (Licence Plate Recognition) cameras and it doesn't need a Police Officer or witness to consider pressing charges, as everything is on digital record. Traffic Control Officers stationed in City Control Centers review and submit to the Senior Officer any incidents in Box Junctions that they think the drivers need action taken against. It surprises me that, in fact, there aren't more drivers charged due to the number of times such incidents occur throughout the peak traffic periods in Cities.:coffee::snorky:

I knew it had happened elsewhere but couldn't cite any. :noidea:

I don't know whether they had LPRs in 1976 but I know that with my friend's case it was a policeman on foot. A London taxi driver told me that junction was notorious for drivers being booked in those days. He said that he understood that a lot of them just paid the fixed penalty but that was just third hand.

I think that that was probably true as it was/is far more convenient and less painful just to fork out for the fine. Cases like that usually only end up in Court if the driver contests the charge, but they are more frequent than you would think.
With regard to the policeman on foot I would point out that in the 70's there was around 40,000 more Police Officers than there is now. So I presume Doghouse is thinking more in terms of today's reduced Police Force.:dunno::snorky:

‘Terrified’ pony put down with broken leg after New Year’s fireworks

Please please just be so careful if you must have fireworks. This is all too common. A sweet wee rescue pony who was much loved by the children who knew him has lost his life through being terrified by fireworks. It's bad enough having the damned things over the Guy Fawkes period but now they seem just about as popular at New Year. Not a happy start to the new year for those involved.

How very sad that animals have to suffer because of thoughtless people.
