    They have flowered from seed in the first year for me. They obviously get bigger and better the following years.

    Prior to sowing you need to nick canna seeds and I also soak them overnight too. They have a very tough seed coat, some folk use a knife, but the safest method is to grip them with pliers and carefully file the coat till the white endosperm just becomes visible. It is possible to damage them but it needs to be done.

        For economy I guess seed is worth considering. To get the exact plant you want though (colour, size, habit, named variety) a named plant ticks the boxes:)
        Roders, Durban was the first canna I had. Psychedelic is the word to describe it I think. Its foliage is wonderful if you like brash, gaudy and in your face. Subtle it aint :hapfeet:

                        Equally, if anyone wants to take a punt on rhizomes of un-named clear yellow, purple-leaved with orange flowers, purple -leaved with pink flowers or Stuttgart (variegated leaves fairly insignificant flowers), they seem healthy enough, no obvious virus.
