Not wishing to get into a controversial situation but I know both women in farming (I live in a farming area), and other industries (meet them regularly), as well as some models (I used to work with models as well).

So far, the non-models have said that they don't mind the models doing the job they do as it doesn't impact in the slightest on the job they do and the respect they get from their male colleagues.

One of the models told me recently that she gets fed up with being criticised for using her physical assets as she doesn't have the right abilities to do a lot of the other jobs that the critics say she should be doing instead. She loves what she does and makes a fairly good living out of it. I can't put on here what she thinks of the critics that voice their opinions about what she does!

These are just points of view that have been given to me by the women that do these jobs. Don't shoot the messenger! :dunno: :)

Someone I was at school with who was not blessed with an enormous IQ became a model for Vogue. Hell's teeth she earned a fortune and travelled the world while I was tube strapping into the City of London earning...hmm not what she was. Was I jealous? I also had a job which involved the Motor Show at Olympia and met quite a few of the models who draped themselves over E Types and the like. They all seemed to be quite happy in their job and none of them appeared to be having a gun to put to their heads to do the job. I too live in the countryside and regularly see some of these quite sexy! tractors with eye watering price tags. Our neighbour got a new all singing one last year and I was told he got not a lot of change out of £500,000:yikes:

The new, first ever female, president of the NFU says that she can't see what the fuss is about.

By the way, those 'tractor' girls are being paid £500 per day :rolleyespink:

I don't suppose I'd get that sort of money if I dressed like that - unless it was to pay me to go away :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

All of this centres around freedom of choice.

It's not for one group to force their values on another group.

An analogy - some years ago being gay was frowned upon - so much so that it was illegal for a person to live their life the way they wanted to.

This was the straight community forcing their values on the gay community - fortunately we now live in more enlightened times.

So, if women want to promote whatever and it is their own choice to do so, it's not for anyone else to apply their values to that decision :dunno:.

I don't know about anyone else - but it seems to me that people are far too easily offended nowadays :spinning:.

I agree, but it's difficult to draw a line between these things.

I'm of the age when a man would always open a door for a woman, I still do, but would also open a door for another man if he happened to be there. The difference is that I would go out of my way to do it for a woman. Some years ago I got told off by a woman for opening a door for her (we were both going into M&S and I was in front of her, opened the door and stood back for her to go through) and received a rather angry comment from her about it.

I also stand up if a woman comes to the dinner table because that is what I was taught, and feel is right. It's a sign of respect and if a woman doesn't take it as such then as far as I'm concerned it's her loss.

On the other side, I am not offended by seeing a scantily clad woman and quite enjoy the sight. If she's happy with it then I'm happy as well. I would still treat her with the same respect that I would treat any other woman - even the queen (yes, I have met the queen :blue thumb:).

I treat everyone with respect regardless of sex, race, creed or colour although some have eventually demonstrated that they don't deserve it. What anyone decides, of their own free will, to do for a living is down to them.

Some years ago now, one of the guys at work was formally reprimanded for quite innocently saying:

"Good morning ladies" :yikes: as he walked past a group of female colleagues.

Apparently, in the past, ladies was a term used to describe ladies of the night.:th scifD36:

I wasn't offended on behalf of the women. It was the use of 'politically correct mob' that annoyed me. It's like saying 'PC Brigade'. There's normally only one reason for using that and it's annoyance at not being allowed to be offensive.

I do find the photo distasteful but then I was bought up in the 70s and 80s when women who did that kind of modelling were treated as brainless bimbos and being pretty could be as much a curse as a blessing. I'm of the generation that hard to fight hard for women to have the rights, privileges and opportunities that young women take for granted these days. And to have it all dismissed as 'PC' in a sneery tone really pisses me off.

And the fact that it's taken so long for a woman to be President of the NFU tells its own story.

It tells no story at all - unless you are suggesting that the NFU has been discriminating against women - what facts make you draw such a conclusion?

That may have well been the case in the past - but not today - attitudes have changed thank goodness.

How do you determine a 'sneery' tone from a piece of text? The whole point is related to womens rights - the right to choose what to do.

To what? I'm not aware I have to justify myself to you or anyone else. I already stated my opinion in my post. And if women have a right to work at whatever they like, then they also have a right to an opinion.

My questions - I wondering how you came to the conclusions in your post? You make some fairly bold statements but don't appear to be able to back them up...

Any way this topic is getting too 'heated' for me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - I'm saying no more.

                        No offence taken I hope.

Yeah.... a man telling a woman she doesn't know what she's talking about when it comes to the fight for women's rights. Do you think any offence has been taken?
