Never had a Porsche, and it would not be my no1 car if I had that kind of money.

So, the 10% wont make much difference to me.

You'll be wanting either a 'relaxed' or 'straight' fit I suspect @wiseowl. :) If it's any consolation women's jeans are the same.

I often had jeans with patches of my dads old work gear sewn over the rips and tears!

I can never find a consistent size 32 - every place has their own concept of what 32" is and none of them actually use a damned measuring device methinks!

It's not the shops @Loofah, it's the machinists. Everyone has their own way of working and machinists are the same. Which is why, when we're buying more than one identical item of clothing each one should be tried on, as they all tend to differ slightly in size. :)

Speaking from my retail experience, the big name clothing stores may farm out the production of the same line to more than one manufacturer.
This will ensure continuity of supply, if one firm goes belly up as they all have to cut their margines to the bone to get the work.
So there's often a small difference in sizing. Added to that, the machinists making up the garments often have to reach a certain production total, may on occasion,s sew the wrong label size into the odd garment, or simply not have enough of the right size tag, so use a different one.

On occasions when I was managing different chain stores, (before I changed job and went into managing departmental stores), I'd look at say, half a dozen size 16 sweaters of a new line and measure them. It wasn't uncommon to find a difference in some. Anyone shopping for something they aren't going to try on, should take a tape measure with them.

Even with machine made products they can vary. When I buy my shoes (only ever buy walking shoes nowadays :noidea: - for a good reason) I usually end up with ones from different boxes as there are always slight differences even in the same size and pair. I never have any problem with the shop as they're all from boxes of the same shoes.

Did you really think I thought there was a bunch of people sewing garments at the back of every shop?!

I get that, but machines are supposed to be calibrated are they not? A straight line of 32" is the same length anywhere and everywhere so I don't really see the reason for, in some instances, vast variance. I also accept that there is a tolerance (albeit not from me it seems!) but the sheer scale of difference is frustrating.
