Up in the area for a few days and admiring the clumps of wild snowdrops in the hedgerows. They just suddenly appear anywhere they choose. Had a nice quiet hour in Geoff Hamilton's garden. Beautiful hellebores to gaze at and I hugged one of Geoff's mature Silver Birch trees with the most stunning silver white coat on. As I pressed my ear hard against the trunk I could hear a rushing water like sound from within. Geoff's presence is still all around you in the garden.

Barnsdale isn't that far from where we live. I have been to both hotels but never to the gardens. One day I might venture out there. This weekend we had a walk around Anglesey Abbey. That was very nice but a very expensive place to go just for a walk.

We went to Barnsdale, many years ago, not that long after Geoff died. To me, a fantastic place that anyone remotely interested in gardening should visit. His memorial garden was just being established, but his bust was there. I must admit to being quite ‘choked up’ at the time. To me, Geoff was the best...
