He he I cant wait to get there now. This will be the 3rd time I’ve been and last time was so good it’ll be hard to top. Not sure whether many of you are rap fans but we had a private concert from Snoop Doggy Dogg. There was only about 250 ppl. It was absolutely amazing. These big IT companies know how to spend their money on treating their staff.

Also going to go to the city gardens again and the japanese tea garden. It’s beautiful! Going to try and find some new gardens this year.

                28/2/19.

Managed to get out and pot-up the six replacement roses. I must say that J.Parkers stick to their word. I had no problems sorting the rose order out. Sad to say and at times causing me to bow my head at times, but I have lost so many roses. Albiet I still have two HT's purchased from Parkers back in 1964. Since then and especially since redesigning the garden into a memorial to Valerie, I have lost so many roses and at great cost. Sadly age and fitness says a very loud NO to replacing much of the soil, so much of my planting from now on will be in pots etc.

I have no lawn so that's one job less. The gravel paths are well endowed with self down weeds etc. My shrubs will have to take a good thining out. Existing roses are well out in leaf, thanks to the past few days of abnormal weather.

Here if I may offer a few words of advice to new gardeners. Please be patient and wait a few more weeks before spending out and planting bedding plants. YES, the garden centers have loads, bide your time. Many of us experienced gardeners have been caught out simply to the odd sunny day. A sudden night frost can wipe out all of your new plantings. Oh how the commercial world will love you when, you go back later to buy more plants. Be wise.

One of our local nurseries won't sell the bedding plants if you say you don't have a greenhouse to keep them in. They tell you to come back in April.

I've started some cucumber, mint and cauliflower veronica seeds. I am starting to run out of places to keep my seedlings but only two weeks to go before I fire up the heater in the greenhouse :)

My plans for moving compost were thwarted somewhat earlier as wheelbarrow wheel had a puncture. Could I get a replacement quickly??? Only the expensive ones were readily available ....not worth it for my tatty wheelbarrow. So a cheapo will be picked up on Monday or a new barrow:)

Fine day spoiled a little by fine misty rain late in the day. Potted on rooted cuttings and noted all ornamental seed sown a week or so ago have germinated. Mulched more cannas....mixture of dried manure, fertiliser and compost.:)

So a very old Cotoneaster was dug up, sad to see it go as its over 20 yrs old but it had seen better days & i was shocked that the root came out so easily! Im thinkin' it must've been on its way out anyway :dunno: the other was a very old Hawthorn that i have had trained for a lollipop for donkeys years & the trunk was THICK! honestly nearly killed me removing it :thud: my god that must be the hardest wood of all the hard woods :phew:

Well during the sunny days I thought it was a good time to put the new roof on the poly tunnel, still with the green woven stuff but £20 for a new 6 x 3m cover was a bargain.
A few improvements being I used tape on all the outer edges of the tubing, only because that was where any wear took place.
I did away with the webbing as it disintegrated, I went with ratchet straps ( there only loose ) as they were wider and I could alter the way it gripped in strong winds.
The inside will have to wait until I am able to do it, took it out of me I can tell you

I purchased two more Harcostar 700litre water butts yesterday.. I already had one and a small 350 one..
I got them positioned down the side by the poly tunnel so not too far to walk with the cans.! ;) The path has a natural slope so it has made it really easy to connect them all together with the small 350 at the lower end..
Sadly it is also where I keep my bins and recycling so apologies for looking at that too..
So when full 2450litres all for the tunnel.. Now need some rain to fill them.! :yay: They are forecasting heavy rain for Wednesday so we shall see, the first and oldest of the butts is already full..
I also have another 4 350s and one other 700 as well collecting off of all my other roofs..
                              Today’s offering..

:rain: :cloudy: :rain: fog, cold windy for past few days. No gardening except for potting up the Weigela and Philadelphus I succumbed to in B&M. There is a stand which I have to walk past to get to the art/craft supplies. The shrubs have no natural light and no water  so I took pity on them. I don't understand how this can be cost effective as b&m have to pay for these plants and then they allow them to die :dunno:. I've not grown Philadelphus before. It sounds delightful though. Just need to find somewhere for it to live and the Weigela. Does anyone know if Weigel and Philadelphus will stand up to wind? I read the latter doesn't mind salt. I already have a Weigela but it's planted in a relatively sheltered spot (not by me ).

Lots of :hhog: activity seen on camera over past few nights and all the food polished off :)
