Would 6'' pots be too big? I have loads of them lying around, and that would save me the trouble of a B&Q trip....

6" are a bit big at the moment. In fact, something smaller than they are in would be fine for now. So if you have smaller ones lying around use them.

This size is plenty big enough.

They're slightly smaller than the ones you're using.

Just back from B&Q. Bought 20 x 7.6 cm (3 ''). I also picked up another tray and another two packs of Cayenne seeds.

'How many chilis do you actually need??' asks my lovely wife. :spinning:

Those of you that know me realize that the end of last year and beginning of this has been tough on me. I missed my chili sowing but hopefully the gardening club where we're members, will have a few plants to purchase.

Where are you located? Depending on how successful my crop is, and if you're within driving distance of SE London, you're welcome to come and get some of ours.

@Vince don't forget that if you're in need then we should have some nice healthy chilli plants for sale on Open Day. I hope you're able to make it again this year - I hope to post the new Invite thread tomorrow if I have time. :dbgrtmb:

Sowed my Big Jim chillies today. The seeds are much bigger than jalepeno and the likes - hardly surprising, given the size of the fruit. Will be sowing more varieties tomorrow.

The transfer to individual pots has been done.

Do you think some of the taller ones in that tray need to be moved? I'm concerned that they'll start to crumple, if they get too tall (although for the moment, they look quite strong and lithe).

No, I just looked and that's not it. A friend has one in her garden, I'll have to ask.

It's not a table just to pot stuff. It's essentially this big table with a recessed part in which she actually grows stuff, and there's a wire grill across the top, to stop birds from snacking on seeds.

I think we use about 60 litres - unless I'm mistaken and those large bags aren't 20 litres.

My wife helped me yesterday with moving the Moruga to small pots. She did a stint in a garden centre many years ago, as a teenager, and was wondering - given the apparent lethality of my methods! - if I was packing the earth enough, to ensure that the seedlings got enough nutrients.

Came downstairs this morning to feed the babies and switch the coffee machine on, and the Moruga are still doing well.

I'd give them a little while longer before potting up. There's a theory that if you, occasionally, gently brush the plants with the palm of your hand (just lightly across the top of the leaves) it will help strengthen them.

This goes back to plants growing outside and developing more strength to resist the wind. For instance, when planting young trees they recommend that you don't leave the supporting post there for more than two years as they need the rocking from the wind in order to develop stronger roots.
