Forgive me Sheal but. That is a very attractive and shapely leg you have. (Smile). Slap on wrist.

      Might the wood be....Maple?

Haha! I knew I wouldn't get away with that picture without a comment. You may want to withdraw your words @Mike Allen as that leg belongs to my son. He is restoring a table and your suggestion of Maple is a possibility as he lives in America. :)

I thought it was too light in colour for Oak @HarryS but you could be right. :)

It's American light oak then, Sheal
Pete may be the one to ID it for you .

Hmm, right now I think it could be anything Harry, so American light oak is also possible. I do know it's not teak so that shortens the list.

It also looks like a lace making bobbin Jack. And I think I have one that looks just like it stored in my loft.

Difficult for an exact I D.
Turned timber shows the grain differently.
The grain looks a bit too open to me for maple but the colour is right.
Grain looks similar to walnut but not American black walnut.
I know they use a lot of red oak over there for furniture but colour doesn't look quite right. It could have some kind of tint in the finish.
Really need to cut a bit off and have a sniff:biggrin:

                Looking again up closer.
Still going for walnut but what we would call English walnut ie Juglans regia as opposed to Juglans nigra.
But just from a photo it's open to debate

Thanks everyone. :dbgrtmb: It looks like light or white Oak is the favourite at the moment but I think Pete's suggestion of Walnut is a possibility too.
