The thing is cats aren't classed as dogs. They're more of a wild animal, so it's difficult to keep tabs on them.

They're classed as a wild animal, not that they are one.

Both my cats do their business in my neighbour's garden. They have been doing it for years and the neighbours have only been there a few months. Previous to that, the land stood unoccupied for at least six months or more. The cats mostly go that way as it gives them a quiet space away from the dogs. Its something they have become accustomed to doing and I can't see them changing their habits anytime soon. So far the relationship between my cats and my neighbours has been amicable.

:yikes: don't be surprised, now that the weather is nice for being outside, if your cats come home back wet. I like cats but not if they would use my yard as a toilet. That rarely happens here. It is against our town bylaws to let either cats or dogs roam free. The odd time a neighbour's cat, Cinamon, gets loose but he doesn't do his business here. Just comes for a visit and a scratch :)

They say that if you don't want other peoples cats come into your garden, get one yourself that will stop the others. :)

It all depends on the situation. If there's enough room and the cats don't cause too much havoc on the wildlife (or if the neighbourhood doesn't really swing that way ;)), cat visitors can be lovely bonus friends. :)

And then again, if there is a young family and the toddlers return from the garden stinking of cat poo and the pregnant lady gets all worried about toxoplasmosis and the teenager is severly allergic, it can become hell.

In our previous house the two visiting elderly cats were most respectful, their poo was considered as a fertiliser and as the trees were tall, the birds were fine. They would never had dreamt of entering the house. They most graciously allowed a petting session every now and then :)

Our current situation is different, the Grey Predator has stopped the ivy from being a central nesting haven enjoyed by all the surrounding houses, and the havoc it causes when sneaking in is annoying. GRRRR!

We have a lot of cats around here and the birds aren't bothered about them and every one feeds the birds and they haven't said anything about the cats.
