Now to sound like Goody Two Shoes:- :heehee:

Don't have it in our house.

Don't use them or anything containing them. Don't use sugar either. We use Stevia but the drug companies have meddled with that now! We used to grow it (it's a herb) and use the leaf for sweetening. Stevia extract (Stevia rebaudioside) is achieved by distilling the extract from the leaves. We can't buy unadulterated Stevia in this country as they add chemical sweetener to it! So I buy it from the US. That also has an additive but it's vegetable glycerine and gives a viscous texture to the Stevia liquid (makes it easier to use in a dropper bottle).

Don't buy any soft drinks with or without sweetener/sugar nor fizzy drinks.

      Definitely.

      Agreed.

Anything that kill's is a risk, so you have to do things to less-en the risks, mask's, gloves etc and do things proberly, do it properly first time then you won't have to do it again

Look at when farmer's were not wareing any mask's, gloves and overalls when useing sheep dip's, the chemical is used to kill bug's etc kills the nervse system

Isnt it funny how Monsanto was untouchable and brushed away any critisism or legal action when it was an American company but when it was sold to Bayer a German company all of a sudden multi billion law payouts appear in American courts ?

Is it because Us, German relations are at a near all time low?

Goodluck to the Indian farmers who were screwed over by monsanto .

California juries are known for giving large damages, this is why they are popular with people suing for damages. These are generally appealed and if not overturned significantly reduced. However, while you see the headline damages, the final settlement generally receives less publicity.

How dangerous is it? Should we all have access to this stuff , keep it in the garden shed and use it whenever we want to?

If the basic safety precautions are followed, it only does harm to weeds. Quantity-wise, I think that banning it for home use but allowing farmers' blanket use is illogical. Even though it's strictly controlled here, the sheer scale of agricultural use is a bit scary. But until 'they' come up with a viable alternative, there's no way the French government dare ban it outright.

Most of the things we do are dangerous, driving a car, mowing the lawn and even doing the washing up ( loook at the back of a washing up liquid bottle, harmful to aquatic life)
If in dought don't use it

I have just bought 5 litres of concentrate, presuming an impending home-use ban. The frugal amounts I use it in this should last me for years.

I agree farmers over use of the product is the biggest problem imo especially when actually spraying food crops with it.
I was under the impression that it is the EU that wanted to ban it.
So bearing that in mind the French government will probably vote for the ban and then not bother enforcing it.

It’s not good if it enters the water chain but that’s the same with many chemicals used in the garden.
The domestic stuff is weak but enough to do the job but what happens is joe blogs decides to purchase the commercial glyphosate and then thinks it’s best to not read the label and goes ahead and adds 2 to 3 times the recommend amount and then goes off and pours it on here there and everywhere. It’s the same for the domestic concentrated stuff, people think adding more that recommended will do a better job where it can have the opposite.
The same can be said of weed and feeds for lawns that are applied more than the label states and rather than a lush lawn they have a fast growing weak plant as nitrogen alters the Ph level short term and the poor plant is forced to grow at a rapid pace.
The situation will not change but just look at the many chemicals we use around the house, many are not environmentally friendly when you read the labels.

The good news is there is a reduction of glyphosate use as many councils don’t tend to spray kerbs but that could be down to budgets more than them thinking about the environment.
In the old days the kerbs would be sprayed at a continuous rate where now there is equipment that sensors green vegetation and the chemical is released.

You also have the old school where in my line of work you often here Roundup is used as the area is large or most often it’s the quickest way and that needs changing but like most things change takes a long time and often over ridden with money.
