A phrase I first heard at police training school. It took me quite some time to realise the importance of such a statement. Now many moons have passed and much water has flowed under the bridges. So perhaps, with age comes wisdom.

Time and time again. We tend to trust others. In the case of our internet usage. We are assured that our details are secure.
This morning 15/5/19 I checked my emails. Email from Virgin Media. My latest bill couldn't be collected/ processed. Please sign in and complete the details etc.
My account is paid by direct debit with Nationwide. I contacted Virgin and was told that this was a scam, from Israel. So what's happened to the security when Tom Dick and Harry can get hold of our email addresses etc.

Although it's a sign of the times that there are so many electronic scams of which you need to be wary but I think that trusting no one is a sad way to live one's life.

Just being aware that something might be amiss and using a bit of natural caution should be sufficient - says a person who used to make some extra income from playing 'find the lady' (Three Card Monte). :heehee:

We have to have trust or what’s the point?:)
        Being naive is something else.
Being sensible too.....not giving private info and to question why it is required.
Scammers of every sort are out there and there are nasty guys out there keen to take our money
To recognise that we won’t get anything for nothing......if it sounds too good to be true then it is
However, it’s good to trust folk and to feel they mean us well.....we just need to be sensible that’s all:noidea:

I seem to get daily scam emails from HMRC, Banks and scammers who claim to have access to my webcam and have incriminating footage of me (I don't have a web cam).

I did once have HMRC call me and I refused to engage with them as I thought it was a scam. They then called our accountant and it was a genuine call.

I'd rather upset the odd genuine call than be had over by the scammers.

You have to be able to trust.....what a horrid world it would be if this was lost!!:yikes:

What we do need to be is educated to know how to use the technology and be fully alert to how scammers work. My Dad is very vulnerable to this !! He's a very chatty person by nature but now normally ( after constant nagging from us) puts the phone down on certain types of calls....but :yikes:....the other day a caller persuaded him to switch on his laptop and then instructed him to which keys he had to press!!!! Apparently after pressing a couple my Dad realized he shouldn't be doing this and finally put the phone down! The chap even asked him if he did online banking.....which he doesn't.
He said the chap was from BT and was very friendly calling my Dad by his first name. He told my Dad not to worry when he was told my Dad wasn't computer savvy and that he would talk him through it.
We rushed over checked his history, did a virus scan although he does have good protection and have secretly disconnected it from the internet :heehee:;). He only used it to look back on photos and to use his downloaded language lessons which he can still do. He wouldn't know how to connect up to the internet or search for info on it.

Awareness is the key not losing trust in people.
Sadly you hear of people being scammed by close family......where would you draw ' the trust line' ??

Even if you do not bank online, seems you are just a vulnerable as a figure not often mentioned is the number of bank staff acting fraudulently.

When folk put so many personal details on Facebook etc, use unsecure wifi etc etc it is rather an open invitation.

Absolutely, any such incoming call, just say you cannot prove who they are and will ring that banks etc normal help line ( on a different phone line).

Do that when my bank calls my, each time the Help center says they wish other folk would do the same and be safer.

Trust them with a little, and see what happens. The big J had a story to say about that one, with talents, as I recall.
