My hairdresser has this growing in her garden. A shrub approximately 5 x 5ft in size. The fully grown leaves are no more that 2 inches in size and there's no flowers at the moment. There are no thorns either. It reminds me of Ribes but I've not seen one this colour before.

Would have expected to see clusters of flower buds...usually flowers first half of June.

We've had some late frosts up here this year and it's probably held them back a bit. The ground is also very dry with little rain over the last two years. The two plants I saw otherwise look healthy. :)

Well Well! It's certainly taken you two a long time to realise you are so close. Well done.
Silver Surfer and I met some years back on the RHS. My Garden forum. Best wishes.

Yes @Silver surfer I moved up here in September 2016 and wish I'd made the move earlier. I have always loved the Highlands and Scottish history and feel really at home even though I'm a southerner (England that is).

I remember when Silver surfer moved to Scotland @Mike Allen, no doubt a wrench from the gardens she left behind.

            Well well!!!
How come I never noticed your address Sheal? Stupid me!
2 of us from England moved up to Scotland.
            Me via Wales!

I can hardly believe it is now 6 years since leaving our beloved garden behind.
Where have those years gone to????
I expect all our very special plants are now gone or lost to a wilderness.
The wilderness once again reclaiming what was originally hers.
We don't want to know ...and our friends there are kind enough never to mention the garden.

This is a new wonderful chapter in our lives.
Like you Sheal we are just loving it up here!
            It is stunningly beautiful.
The roads are so much quieter... it is a pleasure driving.
Everyone here has the time to chat...they are so friendly.
Now we have time to visit other peoples fab gardens.
Join numerous societies and go to many wonderful talks.
            Go for walks.
            Have holidays .

In some ways I wish we had done it earlier...but then we were totally committed to creating a garden ..it too brought a lot of pleasure.
Our garden here is big enough to grow tiny treasures.
It is like having a window box compared to Wales.

The joy of plants goes on...but on a very different scale.
I am still learning about plants.
I still try to keep my brain working by id'ing plants on various internet forums.

It's been there since I moved Silver surfer, perhaps you've not felt the need to check that it had changed. I moved from Essex up to the Isle of Man, where I lived for 24 years - during the course of which as a family we headed off in all directions. My elder daughter still lives on the island, my son lives in America and my younger daughter in Canada. With boredom setting in on the island my better half and I decided to make this move and haven't regretted one minute of it. :)

That time has flown! It must have been one of the hardest decisions you've made but obviously a good one and I'm glad to hear you are happy here in Scotland. :) Like yourself I've found life here so much better in many ways and as you say everyone is friendly and polite.

I agree, there's nothing better than spending time in our garden's whatever the size, and of course the pleasure of growing and seeing plants thrive.

Thank goodness for that! :) I don't think anyone here can match your knowledge, I certainly can't.

                  @Silver surfer and @Sheal

I'm pleased that the move has worked out so well for both of you. :blue thumb: It's rare nowadays to find places where you can escape from the rat race.

Although we're in the south east we still have time to stop and chat and join in local events. Everyone you pass when walking in our village still says hello :) - but the roads are getting busier as they keep building more houses on the edge of the towns around here, six or seven miles away.

                    Thank you for kind comments.

Shiney I think your village is unusual nowadays.
You are one of the lucky.....as are Sheal and I.
Most big cities in UK are very far from the relaxed/very friendly rural village way of life.
Even here in past 6 years we have noticed traffic has increased.
New housing estates suddenly sprout from a green field as another chunk of countryside is lost for ever. While derelict empty houses sit and decay
I realise everyone in the ideal world wants a nice home with space/privacy but with a growing world population I do wonder where it will end.

Thank you Shiney. :) One thing I've had to get used to again. Patience when waiting in a queue in a shop, while the person at the counter finishes his/her discussion about daily ups and downs. Nobody would dare interrupt!
