Not sure what this is going to be as it is growing near a fence, not one I’ve planted

Not sure on that as the leaves reach up 18” or more and it has a spread of 24”, there is a flower head forming in the middle so will post a picture when it flowers

Same type but has straight upright leaves and lots of them I’ll try and take a picture with something to scale it.

          VERBASCUM THAPSUS GREAT MULLEIN 11-Jun-08 9-53-25 AM.JPG
Jimcub...I am confused as to what is different in your plant
I thought it looked like Verbascum thapsus ..greater mullein.
Starts with a large rosette of greyish, soft hairy leaves then sends up a tall flowering flower spike.

I'm also confused as greater mullein tends to have thicker and softer looking leaves than your picture and smoother edges (we have loads in our garden). We may need to wait to see it flower.

I’m with @Silver surfer, @shiney. We too have lots of greater mullein in the garden. The leaves seem to grow differently, depending on the soil. Where we have some goodness, yes they are thick, but when it’s growing in the very sandy area, they look just like this.

This has now got mullein moth caterpillars on it so that might be a clue, will have to wait for flowers as it’s 4’ tall and still no sign of any colour or whether it has one or multiple flowers.

I have a purple Mullein although looking more of a mauve colour now and it doesn’t have the thick furry leaves..

Marley Farley your purple flowers look to be Hesperis matronalis not Verbascum.

That solves it without any doubt.
                      Verbascum thapsus ..greater mullein.
