Only a bit of watering this evening, just a small amount for all the pots. I also give my acer palmatums a mist spray in mid-afternoon, just to freshen them up.

We haven't had any serious rain for several weeks. So I turn the leaky hose system on in the evening at let it run all night to wate the borders. But I give the big acer in the front garden a good water every other night because it has a lot of foliage and the leaves will go crispy at their ends if I don't.

I gave the frog pond a trickle change all day, because it was hard to see these "taddies."

This was a week or so ago. we've a lot more now.

I seem to have stopped the wood pigeons from trying to nest in our big acer. I think they are having another go in next door's tree.

Had another good day in the garden today. Started out by painting the fence behind where the clematis Armandii was. Also painted a bit of trellis I'm going to put up for a clematis. Then I painted the inside of my zinc troughs with kurust rust-stop liquid. Then I've tidied up a load of rubbish that had been accumulating at the back end of the garden. I've planted up some more hosts and heuchera and planting some trailing plants in my two small wall mounted planters. I also planted up a cherry tree I bought earlier in the year from Tesco into a much bigger pot until I've worked out where to plant it. More tidying up and planting etc etc to do tomorrow. Also our landscaper is coming to do more work (removing the koi pond waterfall and making it into a raised patio area). It's all go!

I didn’t get much done yesterday. My get-up-and-go seemed to have got up and gone! (Last night, I realised I’d forgotten to take my thyroxine, which won’t have helped at all) The huge diggers are now digging right outside our house, so the garden is deafening. Even indoors it is unpleasant, with the double glazing and glasses in the cupboards vibrating :frown:.
During their lunch break, I managed to get out and label seed rows in the beg beds I showed last week, and also sowed a half-row of lettuce. I hope to do something similar today, and maybe even cut the grass, if it remains dry....

Had the scaffold down yesterday / this morning so planted up a big trough, planted up some succulent pots, moved a load of big pots roughly into position, fed the citrus trees, moved more plants out of the poly tunnel, tweaked the irrigation in the tunnel. One final sweep of the tunnel required and a final bit of planting before we set off later today for a well earned week away. Cant wait !

We've not had some "serious" rain for well over a week. I've been watering the beds with the leaky hose system and the pots nightly. But I've not had the lawn sprinklers on for two days, as it was time to bring out "old faithful."

My Black & Decker "lawnraker," I bought in 1986. It wasn't expensive and is an example of how much better "appliances" were made back then, compared with some of the stuff we've had in recent times and their catalogue of faults. Of course it doesn't get as much use as a mower, but "inactivity" as as bad for such things as too much use.

            P1020843.JPG

It's seen off several lawnmowers in its time.
I gave the lawn a good scarify, I always put it on the middle setting. Now is the ideal time to do it as with the ground being only slightly damp from the dew each morning, it doesn't pull out clumps as it would if it were wet.

It doubles as a leaf collector in the Autumn on a high setting. It doesn't get that much use but I give it a clean and take the belt cover off and oil the mechanism before I put it away.
It's had a new belt in its time, but they are still available at around ten quid.

I then gave the lawn a good mow and I've turned on the sprinklers.

Just put the ‘roof’ on the pergola, and put up a couple of hanging baskets. It’s pretty much finished, just some touch-up painting to do. Trying to decide on seating.

Freddie, I like the pergola. Looks brilliant :)
No gardening today except watering strawberries, blueberries, blackcurrants and tomatoes. Also salad crops.
Superb day.....very warm but not oppressively hot

That's a grand job you've done on the pergola @Freddy. :dbgrtmb:

The weather forecast (rain) allowed me a three hour window today to get my back lawn mowed. Two thirds done and the clouds opened so I carried on and finished. The rest of the day was dry!

                      Thanks @Verdun , @Sheal . It’s a project I started last year. This is how it was...

                      FC91B921-CAFD-4F62-ACDA-6AE69E9F32E9.jpeg

That part of the border was quite deep, so a certain amount of wasted space. As much as we liked the shrubs, we decided to take the lot out, and start again. We also wanted somewhere we could sit in the shade. Hopefully, it’ll look nice once the climbers get going.

You've done a good job of the pergola freddy , I liked your older setting as well wouldn't know they is a wall at the back. Next job for you is to soften the wall with shrubs / climbers or what ever takes your fancy :)
