I've just come home from a visit to Bressingham Gardens in Norfolk. Highly recommended at this time of the year - I've attached a few pictures. How I wish my garden was larger so I could have island beds.

This fabulous peony is called Lize Van Veen.

Very jealous Alana.....very, very jealous !!
Adrian Bloom was, still is, a great inspiration to me. His island beds, his colour and shape combinations, his use of conifers and perennials etc. My style of gardening :)

It was superb and not a rose in sight. I was a great admirer of the late Alan Bloom and his nursery which unfortunately is now Wyevales. Their saving grace is an online shop bressinghamgardens.com/bressingham-nursery

My husband enjoyed seeing the steam engines next door. Yesterday there was a special Rover owners event on so I was able to spend as long as I liked in the garden while he reminisced over the vintage cars  Everyone happy

We visited some time ago (probably 30+ years ago) and Alan kicking around the place. Lasting memories of his long grey hair, large silver hooped earrings and very relaxed approach. I may have got this wrong but I think it was Alan who drove us around the gardens on the miniature railway. Great gardens and a great character

Lovely photos! I have some "Bressingham White" bergenias here - I guess that is where they were first bred?

We have never been. We have family in Norfolk who we often visit.

I absolutely love Bressingham, my Uncle Tom took me there every year as a child, I have a wonderful book signed by Alan Bloom which I treasure :blue thumb:.
I have fond memories riding on the train, walking the gardens & eating ice cream :wub2: at Bressingham

Yes, it would have been Alan. The steam engines etc. were his hobby and he loved driving people around on the train. We have a large pine tree in our garden (alongside where the GC table is on our Open Day) that Alan gave us as a present.

In 2014 Gardeners Corner had a garden visit to Bressingham and these are some of the pictures I took then

You must have gone later in the year Shiney. It's truly a garden for all seasons. I've visited there quite regularly to see the changes.

The latest project is Rosemary's garden in memory of Adrian Bloom's late wife (what a beautiful name for a. horticulturalist's wife). Also the Japanese garden is having an overhaul so there is always something to look forward to seeing.

Alan Bloom was a real character. With his long white hair he resembled a wizard. He was passionate about his steam engines as well as introducing so many herbaceous perennials to our gardens - what a legacy. .
