im quite pleased with progress in the garden this year however the weeks have passed by quickly as I’ve been busy with work and family.

I haven’t sown the likes of cornflowers or nigella yet. (Some nigella have self seeded from last year and are growing in places).

Why can I sow now? Should I sow indoors so that they germinate quicker?

Oh and can anyone recommend any perennials that you get a long flowering period from?

I’m going to treat myself to a trip to the garden centre today!

Sow the nigella and cornflowers directly outside, no point in doing anything else now. Other favourite "quick fix" annuals of mine include poppies, nasturtiums, English marigolds and night-scented stock.

And take a look at the Thompson & Morgan website, which has a sale on and free delivery until the end of today. There is even a seeds to sow now section, which includes veg too. Radishes and salad leaves are quick, in particular: https://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds-to-sow-now

Garden centre perennials: see what catches your eye. Dahlias and hardy salvias and fuchsias are again personal favourites which will keep on flowering until the autumn frosts.
