The Nicotiana is looking fab and smelling beautiful. But just wondering how to care for it. a) do you dead head it? and b) if you do dead head it, do you cut the whole stalk down or literally just hand pick off the wilted flowers from the stem?

@Snorky85 just deadhead them :dbgrtmb:. Stop deadheading at the end of the season and collect the seeds.

You could try smoking the dead petals :heehee:

Thanks @shiney I did wonder about the Nicotine element of it. ha ha. Is it not the leaves that would have the nicotine or the flower petals??

I too was pleasantly surprised at how lovely they smell because most of the plants sold here are the coloured ones which are not perfumed. When I ordered the perfumed seeds, I was absolutely delighted with how much more robust the plants are and of course walking into the wall of perfume each evening. Nicotiana is really prolific. It has sprouted in lots of my pots and I just had to pull a lot of them out from between my kelsaes! But I love the smell so a lot of volunteers get to stay where they live. I collect my seeds too. For me and also a couple of friends. These fellows like having annuals and the smell of nicotiana so I start pots for them every winter so that they have nice plants throughout the spring and summer. Easy for me, and easy for them :)

What variety of nicotiana have you grown @Snorky85 ? I've grown Sylvestris in the past a couple of times and couldn't smell a thing day or night. I grown a few off a magazine this year called langsdorfii and a few f1 perfume .
