Yes indeed they have made a mistake on the meter reading. On your advice I've just checked it and it's 231 as opposed to their "actual" reading of 321. Water company Numeric dislexia? Thanks for your advice andrews.

        That's good news !

And my estimate of 10 to 15m3 / month wasn't too far off. Good to see that my maths from far too long ago isn't failing me.

If theres one thing Ive learnt over the years its to trust no ones figures. Yes …. I'm just an old cynic !!

Glad its sorted and the leak didn't cost you too much

Not the first time a utility company gets the reading wrong. Our electricity and gas supplier charged us almost 9 months usage for a single summer quarter. It took over 9 months and our new supplier to get our money back and apology.

Just a quick one while we are talking Hozelock. Do the anti-kink hoses work ? Are they not to stiff to allow free spooling onto the holder?
            TIA

No, I don’t think anti kink hoses do work HarryS :)
            Mine kinks all the time
Can’t say if they work properly on a hose reel though.

I don't expect it to be 100% kink free. My hose is about 10 years old and seems to be kinking more and more. I was just hoping it would be less prone to it though.

HarryS, I think the opposite is true...I.e. hoses stiffen and are less pliable with age.:)

I bought an expanding X hose for my niece two years ago.....so far, it is very convenient and certainly kink free. Quite impressed, so far :noidea:

We have now had a letter of apology from the water company, Wessex Water for transposing the first two digits of our reading, 231, to 321 and received an amended bill of £160. Thanks so much for your invaluable help once again andrews.

I never use a hose unattended, apart for when I forget I turned it on.;)
Dont trust any fittings at all, most are ok until you put mains pressure on them, block the end off and they leak.

I bought one a couple of years ago - cost me near on £100, and it is utterly useless. Getting fittings onto the ends is a pig of a job, and then once in use you discover that the internal structure that stops it kinking fully also significantly reduces waterflow. I have this year gone back to a fairly basic Hozelock hose on a cart.

On the basis of our new Gardena sprinkler, I would be willing to try one of their hoses, but they are not cheap. You get what you pay for though, I think.

                    I use Tricoflex

                    Tricoflex Hose Pipes - Pitchcare

It’s a heavy hose, I’ve got it wound on a basic hose spool and it’s been great but it’s stiff compared to other hoses and very resilient to crushing and kinking. No problem with water flow to the pressure washer I use.
